…let everyone be quick to listen, slow to speak… James 1:19
I’m on a mission to create Christians who resist misinformation in order to strengthen testimonies and promote truth in the digital age. On my social media pages, I’m unpacking common myths I see shared by our Siblings in Christ and providing you with the facts you need to know on viral topics.
Unpacking My Motives
Strengthening Testimonies – Let’s be honest: There’s some faith required to be a Christian. A Triune God, the Resurrection, and a Spiritual Realm are just a few topics in the Christian faith that require more than a bit of logic-defying faith. For an unbelieving world, our testimonies are crucial to save souls and promote the Kingdom of God. But what happens when we get caught up sharing lies of the world and then testify to our friends about a God they cannot physically see? We run the risk of associating our gullibility with our faith and sow doubt that we’re believers in a true God instead of another viral fantasy. By resisting secular misinformation, we build our credibility as truth tellers, thus strengthening our testimony of the Gospel message.
Promoting Truth – As a “colony of heaven” we have a responsibility to partner with God in making earth as it is in heaven. By resisting misinformation, we resist the work of the Enemy who seeks to destroy, primarily by deception. Although topics discussed in the #SlowToShare campaign may not always touch directly on issues of relevancy to the Church, we as the Body of Christ have a responsibility to work on behalf of Truth wherever we can. Engaging in secular issues marred by misinformation also furthers the mission of Jesus by working in the margins of society to bring healing to places and topics wounded by controversy and falsehood.
